The Leningrad school of science fiction enriched the genre with many famous names. Among them are Georgy Martynov, Ilya Varshavsky, Vadim Shefner, and Alexander Shalimov. However, a special place belongs to one name—not only because its bearer was a woman. In the mid-1960s, Olga Larionova suddenly shone on the science-fiction sky, quickly winning many fans. Her novel "The Leopard from the Summit of Kilimanjaro" is not only recognized as one of Larionova’s best works, but also considered a gem of world science fiction. Had she been American, she surely would have received the Hugo or Nebula awards—or maybe both. Her works were published rarely, but every one of them in the 1960s and 1970s went straight to readers’ hearts.

The cycle "The Crowned Krayg," which began with the novella "Chakra of the Centaur," was created over about twenty years. What was originally conceived as a joke turned into a full-fledged "space opera," a worthy response to Hamilton’s "star king."
