The novel’s heroes in “Brother Juda” are ordinary people. As the writers themselves say, “you can meet them on the street, in a café, or on the subway.” The intrigue—so typical of Boileau-Narcejac—is extremely complex. And, as always, the ending is completely unpredictable. But in this novel the co-authors reached such heights of psychological analysis that they rightfully earned a place alongside such recognized experts of the human soul as Fyodor Dostoevsky, William Faulkner, and François Mauriac.
