For several months, the Ukrainian army has been unsuccessfully trying to seize Zarechensk—the main stronghold of the rebels, supporters of federalization. To speed up the capture of this uncooperative city, the new Ukrainian government sends into the combat zone a train of an international charitable organization, whose cars are filled not with medical staff, but with toughs from a private American army. The deadly train is cynically called the “Friendship Train.” The mercenaries are supposed to arrive in the city disguised as volunteers and, within a few hours, clear residential neighborhoods—both of militia fighters and of civilians. The plans of the Ukrainian government become known to Russian special services. A GRU special forces unit moves urgently toward Ukraine.
