Description
Sokhara was born at the very last chime of New Year’s bells. His rare talent for “repairing”—not only broken objects, but also human hearts—quietly changes the fates around him until one unexpected letter ruins the usual order of his life.

At midnight on New Year’s Eve across Japan, 108 strikes of the bell ring out in temples—the number of sins and weaknesses that keep people from happiness and inner harmony. With each strike, it feels as though one of those burdens is released; and with the arrival of the new year comes hope to begin anew—without the old pain and the weight it carried.

Sokhara Mamoru was born on a tiny island that very night when the last, one hundred eighth, bell strike sounded—and this strange coincidence shaped his path. From his early years, he knew how to set right everything that broke. But his “repairs” were not limited to things: somewhere he helped with a warm smile, somewhere with simple words of support, and somewhere with attentive silence. Without any profit, he tried to ease other people’s worries and share their pain.

Sokhara himself didn’t realize that with his presence alone he was giving his neighbors faith in small miracles. He didn’t understand how important he was to the island’s residents until a letter arrived the day before the next New Year—one that turned everything upside down. And only then did the islanders come together to repay him with the kindness he had given to others for so long.
