Description
Shurka, Bobka, and Tanya—freed from besieged Leningrad—are separated again, but they are alive and they know it for sure: they’ve already learned to feel how the hearts of loved ones beat hundreds of kilometers away from them. Meanwhile the war, in its blind madness, spares no one: neither adults nor children, neither those at the front nor those beyond the Urals, neither cats nor horses, neither trees nor birds. With this foolish war, everything has become horribly tangled, and now the time has come to drive it away with the most effective weapon—because if people and bombs can do so little, then it’s time to use a magical spell.

“Beetles Don’t Cry” is the third of five books in the series “Leningrad Fairy Tales.”

The first book, “Children of the Crow,” was named the main event of 2016 in teenage literature, made the shortlist of the “Yasnaya Polyana” literary award, entered the international list “White Ravens” among the best 200 books from 60 countries, and also won the IN OTHER WORDS award of the largest British children’s literature support foundation BOOK TRUST. The second book in the series, “Stolen City,” made the longlist of the V. Krapivin Prize in 2017.

The book “Beetles Don’t Cry” is read by actress Roza Shmukler from the theater company “Master’s Workshop of Peter Fomenko.”
