"Lived Opposite the Prison...". 470 Days in the Dungeons of Kyiv

The author of this book is a well-known journalist and former chief editor of the portal “RIA Novosti – Ukraine” Kirill Vyshinsky, who spent nearly 500 days in Kyiv detention. Ukrainian Security Service employees detained him on charges of high treason that day, when Vladimir Putin was ceremonially opening the Crimean Bridge… In the view of the President of Russia, this situation became unprecedented, and Vyshinsky himself was arrested “for his direct professional activity, for carrying out his journalistic function.”

Eight times the court extended the term of Vyshinsky’s detention, until, in September 2019, the journalist finally ended up on the list for an exchange between Moscow and Kyiv.

In his book, Kirill Vyshinsky tells, completely openly and for the first time in all details, about the rampage of nationalism in Ukraine and the lawless actions of its special services; about the long 15 months he spent in custody; about the harsh everyday life in a prison in a so-called “European country”; about what it’s like to be ground up in the gears of a major political game; and, most importantly, about what helped him not break and keep himself intact.
