Description

In a barren, unworked, forested wilderness, a man named Isaac arrives and begins to work there. He fells trees, uproots stumps, builds housing, and plows the land wrested from the forest. And since a man can’t live alone, a girl comes to him—in rural terms, Inger. At first she hires onto Isaac as a worker, and later she becomes his wife. Isaac and Inger’s expanding homestead creates enemies out of jealous people, who drive Inger to crime…
