Tales of the Thrice-Nine Kingdom

“Tales of the Thirty-Ninth Kingdom” is a collection in which the main characters move from one fairy tale to another—first growing from children into mighty heroes, and after death continuing to participate in the action, now as heavenly warriors. In fairy-tale form, the epic of different peoples surrounding Rus’ (“the Thirty-Ninth Kingdom”) is reflected. The representatives of these peoples, communicating peacefully or hostilely with the inhabitants of the Thirty-Ninth Kingdom, become filled with that heavenly joy which lives in the hearts of their neighbors—and as a result, their life and inner world change greatly.
