WHAT DID THE SUMERIANS HUM ABOUT. Ancient history

This is the second book in the series “Lessons of History,” which I wrote together with my friend Alyosha Dmitriev. Why did we write it? Perhaps subconsciously we wanted to take historical figures off the pedestals they had never even walked on. Put up a monument on a tall pedestal, and the monument becomes higher—but the person does not.

Generally, tall pedestals are for dwarfs. And if you do a comparative analysis, you can see a pattern: the shorter the person was, the higher the monument for him.

Children and normal people have always been interested in little things: what did Tutankhamun eat—did he get ice cream or not? And what bath did Archimedes use—a plain one or a Jacuzzi?

Let’s act like the English queen, who, when asked by schoolchildren, “What do you have in your bag?” showed them what was inside.

We wanted to show what was in ancient bags, backpacks, suitcases… Of course, with one exception: the Nuclear Suitcase, which—thankfully—didn’t exist back then. Otherwise nobody would have known what all the Sumerians were humming about.

Yours, Andrey Usachyov
