Karen Blixen, a Danish baroness, is one of the most original writers of the 20th century. Her work is unique because it combines elements of very different genres—from thrillers to travel notes, from philosophical prose to lyrical comedy. “Out of Africa” is her main book, which has been repeatedly nominated for the Nobel Prize; it was adapted into an eponymous film by Sydney Pollack (Meryl Streep, Robert Redford, Klaus Maria Brandauer), which won an “Oscar” in five categories.
This novel is a recollection of Blixen’s long years spent in Africa—of adventures, dangers, and, of course, of people who fell in love with this strange, incomparable, enchanting continent just as she did.
