Jack Raymond and his little sister Molly, having become complete orphans, are taken in by their uncle—a priest. Despite the constant beatings he subjects Jack to, the boy manages to preserve kindness and honesty in his soul, and willingness to fight for the truth. Jack is placed in a closed boarding school, where he meets the boy’s mother, Helena Mirska, the widow of a Polish revolutionary. Shaken by Jack’s life story, she takes him in.
