The Star

A Soviet reconnaissance platoon entered a village. It was a typical West Ukrainian village. The platoon commander, Lieutenant Travkin, thought about his men. Out of eighteen previous, tested fighters, he had only twelve left. The rest had just been recruited, and what they would be like in action was unknown. And ahead there was a meeting with the enemy: a division was advancing.
