A Life

“Life” is Guy de Maupassant’s first novel, published in 1883—first in excerpts in the daily newspaper “Gil Blas,” and then as a book the same year titled “One Life (A Modest Truth).” It tells the story of a “woman’s life from the hour her heart awakens to her death.” The novel’s release caused an unprecedented sensation among readers.
