The Promised Land

Erich Maria Remarque’s last novel. Perhaps the biggest. Perhaps the strongest. Perhaps the most tragic… “Perhaps”—because the novel wasn’t finished: Remarque’s death in 1970 interrupted the work. In the writer’s archive there remained three revisions of the work and drafts of the ending, based on which the posthumous publication was prepared. In Germany, “A Promise Land” was released in 1998.
