Description
Responsibility for other people’s fates is a heavy burden. Judge Fiona May always believed she was making the right, professional decisions. But the next case turns out to be so complex that neither professionalism nor rigidity and uncompromisingness can help her.

Adam Henry needs a blood transfusion—otherwise he will die. But such a procedure contradicts his religion. Adam’s parents are fanatically religious people, and they have accepted the inevitable death of their son. Adam is a minor, so Fiona has the right to disregard his parents’ will—and then she will save Adam’s life. But in doing so, she will take away his faith, support, and the love of his family; she will make him doubt their love for him.

She will make the only correct decision, in her view—without suspecting that she will change not only Adam Henry’s life, but her own as well.
