Qian Xueling, a Chinese woman who became a hero for both China and Belgium, saved more than a hundred Belgian fighters against fascism from execution by the Nazis during World War II. She, being a nurse from a small village, risked everything to collaborate with the German general Alexander von Falkenhausen, helping people avoid the Gestapo. The story of this young Chinese woman, who ended up in Europe and devoted her life to saving others, is revealed thanks to many years of research. Her actions show how surprisingly human destinies can change in complex historical periods. In the East she is known as the “Chinese Schindler,” but in the West her feats were forgotten until her story was retold.
