Afanasy Fet’s creative legacy is far more diverse than it’s usually presented in the school curriculum. It is known that he was an inspired singer of nature—both in Russian and European landscapes—and a wise philosopher in verse. Yet besides that, Fet created refined love lyrics and unusual ballads, both realistic and mystical. He also appeared as a kind-hearted apologist of calm, idyllic life on a Russian estate, and was an outstanding connoisseur of ancient poetry, able to skillfully adapt its style in his works. All these aspects of his multifaceted talent are reflected in the content of this book.
