Waiting for Autumn

The new and final book written by Andrey Bitov, “In ожидании осени” (“Awaiting Autumn”), is another chapter in the author’s “Pushkiniana.”

Bitov analyzes Pushkin’s texts in terms of his desire to fulfill his creative mission. According to Bitov, the idea and need to write everything he intended formed in Pushkin around 1824. For the next 12 years, up until his death, he consistently and steadily carried it out—marking himself in all genres, even inventing new ones, and achieving the highest point everywhere. Escape from everything and everyone for creative realization and inner freedom was something Bitov himself also had in him.
