Description
The plot of the novel “The Dinner” by the popular Dutch writer and journalist Herman Koch, which at first seems simple enough, is enclosed within rigid time limits: it is just one evening in a fashionable restaurant. Two brothers with their wives came there to have dinner and discuss something. Paul Lohman is a former history teacher, his brother Serge is a future prime minister, and both have teenage children. What begins as banal dinner-table conversation gradually grows into a drama, and one after another terrible family secrets rise to the surface. With each new course, the tension only increases...

In 2009, the novel received the Dutch Readers’ Prize. Since then it has been translated into more than two dozen languages and brought the author worldwide fame: to date, more than a million copies of the book have been sold. In 2017, the film adaptation of the novel had its world premiere, starring Richard Gere and Laura Linney.
