Description
“Greek Lessons” is a story about two most ordinary people who meet during a period when everyone is going through loss and inner pain. The man gradually loses his sight, and with it the familiar world grows dim; the woman has lost her voice and lives in silence, where words no longer find an outlet. It is precisely their vulnerability and lack of usual support that becomes the point of closeness.

Step by step, a delicate, almost imperceptible feeling of belonging is born between them: their unspoken thoughts begin to resonate in unison, and, staying close to each other, they slowly move from despair to hope—from muteness to the ability to name themselves again, even if only with faint breathing.

This novel reminds us of the value of feelings, physical sensations, and the very fact of existing. It’s about the miracle of human contact and how many forms communication can take when familiar ways are unavailable. In this story, an ancient—“dead”—language unexpectedly becomes a living bridge of understanding between a woman who can’t speak and her teacher, who is gradually going blind.
