The Dark Side of the Earth

They were approaching, moving in from the Zone of Eternal Dusk, passing by sparse, careless roadblocks—mute and almost noiseless, like dreadful shadows that had suddenly taken on flesh. Then again, how much flesh did they really have? Only a few surviving warriors knew the answer—those who were lucky enough to make it through brutal clashes with the spawn of the dark side of the world during the last war. An experienced eye would spot a group of twenty creatures at once: hunters or scouts. They moved light, running mostly along animal tracks, keeping away from paved roads and closer to the damp, stale silence, where the faint whimpering of the demonic forces driving them drowned out completely. These were the Lethargics.
