In 1904, an old English estate—home to the twin sisters Victoria and Adelaide. From the outside they are almost indistinguishable, but their characters are opposites. They are like two halves of the same whole: one has been given capriciousness, selfishness, and a craving for male attention, while the other has softness, modesty, and a delicate, kindhearted soul.
Their familiar world is thrown into upheaval when a noble guest arrives at the estate—Lord Stanley. Which of the sisters will he favor? Whom will he take away to New York, into the glitter of social receptions and parties? Between the “halves” a rift opens—deeper with every step. Soon it will become clear what one is willing to do for wealth and status, and what the other can offer in return to defend love and the right to freedom.
