Leningrad, Moscow, a place near Mogilev — Elena Minkina-Taycher’s prose carries the reader through time and space, snatching from the swirl of events episodes from the life of a Jewish family that, it seems, had to endure all the trials of the century. But this story is not only (and not so much) about troubles and tragedies. It contains wedding songs tucked into a little book of Pushkin’s love poems, and a house that smells of pies and sage. And, of course, there is a family destined to reunite decades later in Israel. In the audiobook version, this lyrical story was performed with care and tenderness by actress Kseniya Rappoport.
