1953. Following an amnesty, a group of prisoners leaves a labor camp in Novosibirsk Oblast. Once free, the repeat offenders almost immediately go back to their old ways: they vandalize a rural shop and attack women. The task of stopping the gang is assigned to the operations group of Captain Gennady Lukyanov. His team includes Senior Lieutenant Alla Barysheva, who has recently become a widow: her husband, a police officer, died under mysterious circumstances.
