A one-man performance by Alexander Lykov based on the eponymous play by Sergey Nosov.
Once a beloved favorite of the public and in demand as an actor, he turns out to be abandoned and forgotten—he works as a firefighter in the theatre. His wife ran off with a clown, and the main enemy has been given a monument. The artist finds a multitude of ways to be happy…
“Taboo, actor!” is a deep, ironic performance full of coded things. Even the very title is telling: “TABOO-RETKA”—read it backwards and you get “TABOO, ACTOR!” And it’s no coincidence that this is decoded by the Forgotten Hero; the cynicism of the cigarette holder from the tortoise shell becomes clear, and the touching striped cap on the head of the main (and only) hero is very moving too. Because the shell is all that remains of Tortilla. The funny oddball—firefighter at the theatre nicknamed Churka—is an elderly Pinocchio with a broken nose, and the cap is a rolled-up hat. And then it becomes clear his fear of fire and carpentry tools, his dreams that he is a tree with a thousand little twigs, leaves, and bark-skin. (from a review)
