A. Chakovsky is a master of a dynamic plot. In the story, the hero—a pilot Vladimir Zav’yolov, who survived a terrible drama during the cult of personality years, was unjustly dismissed from aviation—accidentally learns that his beloved Olga Mironova is alive. The search for Olga became the plot of the story. Using this device, the author places his hero into different spheres of our life—this helps present Soviet society more fully in the period of major changes after the 20th Party Congress.
