In a small two-room apartment in Montreal lives a mailman named Bilodo. In the evenings he loves having dinner with the TV running, playing video games, and indulging his secret passion: opening and reading other people’s letters. For two years now, he’s been doing this in secret from everyone.
Of course, he breaks the law—but then, what’s so wrong with it? Who would even know that a letter would arrive a day late? That’s how Bilodo met Séguélène, a woman who regularly wrote haikus to someone named Gaston. Reading Séguélène’s letters is Bilodo’s highest bliss. His happiness is only marred by jealousy: Séguélène writes her messages to someone else.
One day, intercepting a letter, Bilodo decides to write a poem from Séguélène—on behalf of Gaston. That’s how their “mail romance” begins.
