Evina Uvd ir is an orphan from birth. She doesn’t know who her father was: her mother told others he was an officer, but how can you check?
She loves to dream, but not at the expense of her studies: at the boarding school she is kept only out of kindness from the elderly headmistress who taught even Eva’s mother. And Eva understands this too: graduation is very soon, and in no time she’ll have to earn her own bread. If only the headmistress could arrange a patronage and get her placed with acquaintances—or even keep her in the boarding school— and if not?..
But miracles do happen, and Eva can’t believe her ears: her father found her and sent his representative. And she has to leave immediately: her father is dying—old wounds will soon take him to the grave—and he dreams of seeing his daughter before he dies.
So why does Eva feel a trap in this story, so much like the romances she loves and that are strictly forbidden at the boarding school? Maybe the miracle won’t be kind after all…?
