In 1989–1990, a four-volume collection of stories by contemporary Moscow writers of the middle generation was released. In the works of these writers, ideas of restoring social justice, democracy, glasnost, civic engagement, and courage—ideas long maturing in society—were expressed with considerable completeness. Taken together, these works carry a large charge of moral energy and artistic beauty.
