Description
The small island of San-Piedro is isolated to such an extent that its inhabitants can’t afford to make enemies. They honor traditions, and in their minds the memories of the war are still alive.
In 1954, a tragedy occurs: in the waters of Puget Sound Bay, the body of a local fisherman, Carl Heynau, is found. The murder is blamed on Kabuo Miamoto, an American of Japanese origin. Every resident of the island follows the court proceedings, and the case is covered by the editor of the local newspaper and war veteran Ismail Chambers.
Many years ago, Ismail had an affair with a Japanese girl, Hatsue, who later grew up and married Kaubo. In search of justice, the journalist begins his own investigation, and he will have to make a difficult choice between feelings and conscience.
