Hamish Macbeth goes into exile—more precisely, to the small town of Croen, where he will have to replace the local sergeant far from his home village. In Hamish’s opinion, this is the dullest and darkest little town in the world, and bad omens weigh on him. And not without reason: he’s met by unwelcoming residents, local scandals, and rumors of witchcraft.
But soon one of the townspeople dies under mysterious circumstances, and Hamish realizes that no one but him will investigate what happened. One thing is known: lobsters are involved in the case. And maybe—half the town, too.
