Description
“Silvandir” is one of A. Dumas’s early works written during the period of his growth as a novelist. The book covers the years 1708–1715, including the last years of the life of French King Louis XIV, when he was completely under the influence of his mistress, Madame de Maintenon.

The novel was written under the influence of Walter Scott and is subtly styled as an 18th-century prose. The story of young lovers who are trying to be separated by family and fate is framed elegantly and with a hint of irony by scenes of life and manners at the royal court.

Court intrigue, dangerous adventures, burning passions and tender feelings—this novel will captivate all lovers of good historical prose.
