“The performance about the suppression of the uprising on July 6, 1918, when the Left SRs—previously part of the Soviet government—launched a desperate attempt to seize power and draw the country into a war with Germany.” — This is what the synopsis to the 1966 production says.
But from the perspective of today’s historical facts, it is an excellent example of Soviet propaganda and the creation of an idealized image of the leader of the October Revolution, V. I. Lenin. In reality, he himself did not shy away from terror methods, and he was by no means better than the very same SRs that he so fiercely suppresses! The echo of the revolution still resonates in our lives—though almost 100 years have passed!
This production is interesting as historical material—and in order to understand and feel the spirit of the Soviet era! Even if many are still tormented by nostalgia…
