In January 1995, in the Veneto region, in a small secluded settlement in the Venetian Alps, the body of a local schoolteacher was found—horribly mutilated and with her eyes torn out. The police from the nearest town assign the investigation to Inspector Zoë Tormen, known for her passion for car racing, mountaineering, and grunge style. Together with the forensic expert Alvise Stella, who has refined manners, she goes to the scene, assuming it was the work of a serial killer. But the situation turns out to be even more terrifying: soon they find a second dead person, and then a third… All the bodies are covered in wounds from the beaks of crows, which circle the village in large numbers.
