Description
At the beginning of spring, a young stranger arrives at a village station with a heavy suitcase. This familiar plot line brings to mind works by Turgenev and Chekhov. The main character, Roman Vospennikov, leaves the city to devote himself to art in the countryside. He meets familiar archetypal characters, but soon Vladimir Sorokin—the author of the novel—breaks the genre of the novel by killing its main hero.
