Daisy Delrimпle, a charming twenty-five-year-old with blue eyes and a fashionable bob haircut, enjoys Verdi’s “Requiem” in the company of the senior inspector from Scotland Yard, Alec Fletcher. The mezzo-soprano part in the opera is performed by Bettina Westley, the sister of Daisy’s neighbor, Miss Muriel. But the concert ends tragically: at the beginning of the second act, the opera diva falls dead right on stage…
The cause of death is poisoning. The poison, it seems, had been mixed into the liqueur she sipped between performances. But who could dare commit such a bold crime? To whom did the talented, yet capricious and selfish girl cross the wrong path? Daisy Delrimпle comes to Fletcher’s aid again. Soon they learn that the opera singer’s enemies were more than enough—and each of them had not only a motive, but also the means to obtain cyanide, the poison with which Bettina is believed to have been killed…
