“School Library” invites listeners to get to know Leonid Andreev—one of the brightest authors of the Silver Age of Russian literature, a writer of rare talent.

The collection includes his stories for children: “Petka at the dacha,” “Bargamot and Geraska,” “Little Angel,” “Once upon a time,” and “Kusaka.”

Some of the works—“Little Angel” and “Bargamot and Geraska”—were clearly created as “Easter” or “Christmas” stories and are examples of sentimental prose intended to awaken compassion for the “little person.” “Petka at the dacha” involuntarily echoes Chekhov’s “Vanka,” while “Kusaka” echoes the same author’s “Kashtanka.”
