The main character, Timofey Gradskiy, is an orphan. He comes from a station lost out in the far reaches of space, nicknamed “Unlucky.” There’s little work there, the inhabitants’ life is boring and monotonous, and the leadership is mired in corruption and has blended with local crime. That’s why Tim chose a dangerous path: he became a gros—that is, a bounty hunter, someone authorized to punish wanted criminals on the spot and receive a solid reward for it.
