The book is compiled from authentic documents — testimonies of A.S. Pushkin’s contemporaries. These are memoirs, letters, literary notes, and individual statements by people who knew the poet well — his friends and enemies, relatives, and society acquaintances.
Selected by V.V. Veresaev (1867–1945) from a multitude of documentary materials, they vividly depict the mores of Pushkin’s era and allow the reader not only to imagine the great poet’s biography more fully, but also to rethink his life and creative path in a new way.
