Ghosts of the Old Cemetery

“Ghosts of the Old Cemetery” is a collection of eight mystical stories about the riddles of Belarusian necropolises and the subtle, almost imperceptible line between life and death.

Here, the presence of the otherworldly is felt everywhere: in the rustling of grass by abandoned graves, in the icy breath of stone crypts. Old cemeteries protect not only names and dates—behind the fences, beneath the vaults of noble tombs, and deep within family mausoleums, there are stories that have long been forgotten. What once seemed hidden forever beneath the earth returns: the ghosts of the past remember, wait, and sometimes call by name those who dare to touch someone else’s memory.

The book debuted the “MYTH × Writer’s Shuflyadkа” series, created together with a community of contemporary Belarusian authors. “Shuflyadka” in Belarusian means a drawer that slides out from a desk or cabinet—a place where writers keep manuscripts before they see the light of day.
