The name of the great Italian Leonardo da Vinci has become synonymous with the universality of human genius. A sage of the Renaissance, possessed of a truly cosmic breadth of interests and knowledge, he is known throughout the world as an artist, architect, inventor, engineer, scientist, and philosopher.
And Leonardo was also an inexhaustibly inventive fantasist and storyteller. The parables and fairy tales he composed brought him no less fame during his lifetime than his paintings. People eagerly caught every word; the entertaining stories were passed from mouth to mouth and handed down from father to son, from grandfather to grandson.
Da Vinci’s parables, legends, and fairy tales—wise, instructive, and at the same time extraordinarily elegant—are a kind of dialogue with the universe. Their characters—animals, birds, fish, insects, plants, stones—are endowed with the gift of speech and the ability to judge their own actions and those of others.
The artist perceived man and the surrounding world as a single whole, never ceasing to marvel at the wise order of nature, the expediency and beauty of all living things on earth.
Italian chamber music of the 17th century was used in the design of the audiobook
