Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky (1821–1881) is a great Russian writer and a landmark figure not only in national, but also in world literature. “Crime and Punishment” is one of his best-known works. This book is an enduring part of the school literature curriculum for senior classes.
At the core of the novel is the uncovering of a crime—moreover, the criminal is known from the very beginning. But the content of the book is immeasurably deeper than an ordinary detective story. The novel raises the most important philosophical, moral, and social issues; one of the central motives is the atonement of guilt and forgiveness. This psychologically difficult work has attracted theater and cinema for more than a century: stage productions and film adaptations multiply, and there are attempts to creatively reinterpret the great book. We invite you to listen to it.
