Ivan Sergeyevich Shmelev (September 21 (October 3), 1873, Moscow — June 24, 1950, Pokrovsky Monastery, Bussй-ан-От, France) is a Russian writer, publicist, and Orthodox thinker from the Moscow купецтво family of Shmelevs, a representative of the conservative-Christian direction in Russian literature. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature (1931).
