The author of the book is Yelena Georgievna Bonner, the widow of academician A. D. Sakharov. Together with Andrei Dmitrievich, she shared all the hardships of many years of exile in Gorky (January 1980 — December 1986). The book is titled “Postscript”—as if an afterword to A. D. Sakharov’s “Memoirs.”
Most of the book was written in February–May 1986, when E. G. Bonner was receiving treatment in the United States. The documents included in the appendices contain also little-known letters and statements by A. D. Sakharov.
