Paolo Bacigalupi is an American science fiction writer published since 1999. The genres he works in are predominantly science fiction with a post-apocalyptic bent and fantasy. He was born in Paonia, a town in the west of Colorado, studied Chinese at the University of Ohio, and then spent several years in Asia. His works carry the imprint of the cultures of the countries he has visited. Other areas of his interests include ecology, emerging technologies, and the global resource crisis. Bacigalupi’s debut novel "The Windup Girl" has won many awards, including the most prestigious: Hugo and Nebula, the Campbell Memorial Award, and a dozen others.
