For the first time in world publishing practice, the memoirs of Nobel laureate, classic of world literature Knut Hamsun (1859-1952) and his wife Maria are published in one volume. They recount a difficult period in the couple's life: their arrest in 1945, Maria's imprisonment, Knut's confinement in a psychiatric clinic, the trial of Hamsun, and a great love. “Having published ‘On Overgrown Paths,’” wrote their son Tore Hamsun, “father said his last word as a writer. The period he placed was a star in his long literary life and struggle.” Maria Hamsun (1881-1969) was an actress and writer. In the 1920s and 1930s she published two poetry collections and a number of children's books that were translated into Swedish, Danish, German, English, Finnish, and some other languages. For her work for children, Maria Hamsun received the Norwegian Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs Prize in 1957.
