On the fate of the friends—Bolsheviks Matveev and Beizаs—who worked in an underground group during the Civil War of 1921–1922 in the Far East.
It was 1922. The Far East becomes the last refuge for retreating White Guard units. To communicate with the underground in occupied territory and coordinate the actions of revolutionary forces behind enemy lines, scouts Matveev and Beizаs are sent. During the operation, Matveev is wounded; gangrene might begin. He has to have his leg amputated. The brave Red soldier survives the ordeal with courage and tries to find a way to be useful. He is killed during a nighttime raid, but dying, he feels as if he is again in formation.
