In the near future, a young Inuit named Kovana goes on a hunt for seals to undergo a rite of initiation, just as his ancestors did. But his attempts fail, and he ends up on a broken-off ice floe together with a sick polar bear. At the same time, the university graduate Watanabe Yu joins the fishermen of his village on a sea voyage, not suspecting that nightmare events are waiting for him—and that he himself has his own secrets. Bioengineer Lee Shili works on creating hybrid plants capable of destroying plastic, and achieves impressive results—though they are devastating. Ralph Gable, a former soldier and now a dolphin guardian, is forced to make an emergency landing on a mysterious uninhabited island in the Pacific Ocean that is not marked on any map.
