Peter the First

Peter the First is a historical novel by Alexey Nikolaevich Tolstoy. The events span the period from 1682 to 1704. The plot follows real historical events of the turn between the 17th and 18th centuries—from the death of Tsar Fyodor Alekseyevich almost to the capture of Narva by Russian troops. Using broad historical material, the novel depicts a turning point in the history of Russia: the creation of a new state by an exceptional individual—the Russian Empire.
