Rezkaine grew up away from people, in the northern wastelands of the kingdom of Ashai. His universe was the Fortress, and the only close ones were harsh tutors who knew no mercy. Now the Fortress lies in ruins, around it lie the bodies of the slain, and almost no one survived the massacre. Only one managed to escape—and Rezkaine steps into the outside world to follow the trail.

Perhaps the fugitive holds the truth the dying master never had time to reveal. Perhaps somewhere beyond the wastelands there are those very friends Rezkaine is obligated to respect and protect. Perhaps there he will find the meaning of his birth and the purpose for which it’s worth living.

But first he’ll have to get used to “ordinary” big and small people—those who don’t possess Abilities, don’t follow the Rules, and, worst of all, constantly smile and lie. In short, the world is absolutely not made for a serious hero.
